Smaller and faster than their cousin the alligator, Caiman crocodiles have a big mouth, toothy grin, and aggressive personality. (We all have a cousin like that, don't we?) Caiman hides are known for distinctive patterns created by their boney plates. The belly skin has flatter, smoother scales, and the back has hard horn ridges that protect the animal.
